Dolly Parton was born on January 19, 1946 in Sevierville, Tennessee. As a child, Parton began singing on local radio as well as television in East Tennessee. Parton was initially successful as a songwriter later; she started her singing career after being signed by Monument Records in 1965. She composed more than 3,000 songs through her career.
