Barbara Streisand was born on April 24, 1942 in Williamsburg, New York. She is an American-based singer, actress, director, writer, producer, composer, author, designer, photographer and activist. Streisand moved to Manhattan to work as a cabaret singer. She aspired to be an actress and her Broadway debut opened the door for a recording contract, which soon helped her to become a household name. Streisand has sold over 70 million records worldwide, and is the only performer to have earned distinguished honors from all the important award institutions including: One Tony Award, two Oscar Awards, five Emmys, ten Golden Globes, ten Grammys, one CableAce Award, one George Foster Peabody Award, one France’s Légion d’honneur and the American Film Institute’s Lifetime Achievement Award. She is the only artist to have number one albums in Billboard for five consecutive decades. Streisand is among the most successful personalities in show business. Streisand was married to Elliott Gould between 1963 and 1971 and they have a son named, Jason Gould. She married James Brolin on July 1, 1998.
